About our Breeding Philosophy..
Each litter at Delicious is planned with the intention of keeping at least one of the puppies for ourselves to further our breeding program. No litters are bred with the intention of placing all the puppies with others. Depending on the number of puppies in the litter and the overall quality of individuals, we might keep and raise multiple puppies. Above all else, we consider ourselves preservation breeders actively furthering the Bull Terrier breed as defined by the American Kennel Club Standard.
Our experience with the breed lends us to understand their sensitivities both physically and emotionally during the critical development that takes place during their first year. This is important in preventing accidental injury that may occur to a show prospect due to well-meaning, but inexperienced owners.
Rearing Bull Terrier puppies (and any breed with heavy muscle mass such as ours) requires specific exercise and nutrition to reach their full potential. Many promising show puppies never reach their potential due to the non-optimal care and feeding they receive during their most important growth stages.
Our youngsters spend time with our resident Bull Terriers with excellent temperaments, thereby instilling in them qualities they need to function successfully throughout their lives with people and other dogs. Aggressive tendencies with other dogs are very seldom seen and never tolerated… it’s simply not acceptable as all our dogs are expected to co-mingle with our young children.
Our Story
Past
Delicious Bull Terriers began with a young couple's insatiable love for each other and AKC Registered Bull Terriers. Sam brought her experience in showing dogs in AKC conformation along with the animal husbandry skills handed down from generation to generation she learned growing up on her families' rural dairy in Ontario, Oregon. Kurtis brought discerning talent as a photographer for the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Accustomed to capturing everything from presidential events to international military outreach, he soon began shooting Sam at weekend dog shows lending to the birth of his private collections that grew into Down and Back Photography. They married in 2010 and have since enjoyed having AKC Registered show dogs as a part of their lives. Together, they attribute the success they've had with their dogs to God, hard work, superior bloodlines and their commitment to the future families the puppies they produce will become a part of.
Present
Though it is not common to see a couple with young children active in breeding and showing, the Brown's continue to be competitive with their dogs in the show ring even amongst the most seasoned breed veterans. They have both been dedicated members of the Bull Terrier Club of America for the past few years and are also members of the Golden Triangle Regional Bull Terrier Club. They cherish the Bull Terrier community and consider many of their Bull Terrier friends across the country more like close family. Currently, Kurtis and Samantha Brown live with their Bull Terriers and 2 children Kole and Margaret Brown in the great state of Texas, USA. Living with, breeding and showing top quality Bull Terriers continues to be a primary focus in their personal lives and they wouldn't have it any other way!
Future
The future of Delicious is with the next generation of both humans and dogs. Luckily, both Kole and Margaret Brown have proven themselves as passionate Bull Terrier specialists even at a young age! The Brown's consider themselves blessed to have had so much support during their journey and are always happy to pay it forward to other newcomers to the breed whenever possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us at thedeliciousbully@gmail.com if you have any questions, if we do not have the answer we probably know someone who does! Goals for the future in the show ring include continuing to breeder-owner-handle dogs to their AKC titles and being an contributing force within the Bull Terrier Community.
